    Christmas 1776

    Happy Holidays

download and print out this card for free

This was how some folks spent their Christmas holiday so many years ago.

After being driven out of New York by the British and forced to retreat to the West bank of the Delaware during the late summer of 1776, the American cause was at a low ebb. It was a cold and dark on Christmas night in 1776 and the river was running with flowing ice. At about 11pm a heavy storm of snow and sleet broke. Washington’s force did not reach the east bank until around 3am. His soldiers were badly clothed and many did not have shoes. Washington’s men then marched to Trenton, some of the men leaving traces of blood on the snow. The eventual surrender of the dying Hessian commander, Colonel Rahl, to General Washington at the Battle of Trenton was the turning point in the American Revolutionary War.

How To Make Your Own Greeting Cards

    Fore more selection click here

I have provided these note cards and greeting cards as a promotion for my artwork. These cards are free to down load and print out.  I only ask that you do not sell them, or use them for any commercial purposes, or business promotions.  Also please do not use the images for any other purposes.   There are images of birds, animals and nature subjects. I have put some greetings on a few of them, but aside from that they are all blank on the backside, or (the inside)  of the card.  You can make your own text, turn the card over, and print on the blank side to get a card with writing on the inside.  For a selection of card for purchase, that I will make for you please visit:  www.richardnickson.com

You can create your own greeting cards here. Just download and print. You will need a PDF reader program on your computer. If you don’t have one you can get it here for free http://get.adobe.com/reader/

The first thing you need to do is choose a nice card stock to print on.  I should be white card stock otherwise the image color will be off. Then print out the PDF file on the card stock. It is marked as to where to trim the card and has arrows at the half-way point where it will be folded. If you want a card that is blank inside, all you have to do is print, cut to trim and fold.  You are done.

If you want to customize the card you can use an image editing program like Photoshop, or some other image editing software that is capable of opening a PDF file. You open the file in the image editing software and edit it. Type your personalized text on the image. Print it out, trim the card, fold it and you’re done.

If you would like to add text to the inside of the card, you can do this in the image editing software or, use a word processing program like Microsoft Word.

Print out the PDF file. Do not trim or fold yet. Open the word processing program.  Set up  your margins as follows:  For a horizontal card set  the right & left margins to at least one inch.  The top and the bottom at least ¾ of an inch. If the card is a vertical card, you must set the document as a landscape document, that is the page size should be 11 inches across and 8 ½ inches long. Once your page size is set, set the right and left margins to at least ¾ of an inch, and the top and bottom to at least one inch.  These margins will ensure that you are within the area of the card.  It is now up to you to choose the format and the text you would like inside your card.  Choose a rather large font so that your text does not print out too small.  You may need a little experimentation to center things, and get the print to look like you want it. Print out a test print on regular paper and match it up against the card to see if everything will line up ok.  Once your test page looks ok, turn over the card you printed out earlier, and place it in the printer upside down; so that it will print on the backside of the card. Print the card, trim and fold.
